Is Cuba Next? Trump Finds a Way to Cut Off Cuba's Oil Supply
US President Donald Trump is considering a complete oil import ban on Cuba.
According to the US news website Politico, the Trump administration is considering a full maritime blockade to cut off oil supplies to the country.

Some government officials critical of the Cuban government are actively pushing for such escalation measures. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio supports this stance.
Although the issue has not yet been decided, Trump may include this measure in a broader package of actions aimed at forcing a regime change in Cuba.
Previously, Trump and Rubio had warned Cuba, not ruling out the possibility of military action. Rubio accused the Cuban leadership of being incompetent in economic issues, emphasizing that the country's core problem lies in inefficient governance.
In addition, the US president claimed that all financial and oil aid from Venezuela to Cuba has been terminated. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel responded by saying that Cuba is ready to "shed its last drop of blood" to fight against the US.

Notably, on the day of Venezuela's "Absolute Determination" operation, Donald Trump had warned Havana. He believed that Cuba has long exchanged resources such as oil and funds with the Venezuelan government in return for "security." However, according to him, such resource supplies have been cut off. Trump accused the Cuban leadership of extorting resources from Caracas and said the US has ended this situation. He also mentioned the possibility of reaching an agreement "while there is still time." Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez dismissed the US statements.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration has assessed Cuba's economic situation as "on the brink of collapse," and has begun searching for supporters within the Cuban government, aiming to push for a regime change in the country by the end of 2026.
