Brazil's former president Bolsonaro's lawyer confirmed to Reuters that Bolsonaro was arrested by Brazilian police on November 22, after having been under house arrest for several months.
A police official confirmed that Bolsonaro had undergone a medical examination at the prison in Brasília on the morning of the 22nd.
Bolsonaro's lawyer did not specify the reason for the arrest. A source said the arrest was a "preventive" measure related to the house arrest conditions.
In October 2022, Bolsonaro lost his bid for re-election, but he did not accept the defeat, claiming there was "electoral fraud." In January 2023, some of Bolsonaro's supporters stormed institutions such as the Brazilian Congress, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace, clashing with law enforcement officers.
