American Department of Transportation: Due to the government shutdown, the US cannot guarantee the stable operation of air transportation
Sputnik News, Washington. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that the ongoing government shutdown threatens the salaries of air traffic controllers and could lead to a nationwide disruption of air travel.
Duffy said, "We pay for their training during the time they are in training, and this money is crucial for them. Once the pay stops, it will not only cause the current chaos, but also chaos in the coming months and even years." He emphasized that the government needs to resume operations urgently.
He also added that due to the government shutdown, the Department of Transportation cannot guarantee flight punctuality.
He pointed out, "I cannot guarantee your flight will take off on time or not be canceled - it completely depends on whether our air traffic controllers can come to work."
Duffy said that this issue can only be resolved after the restoration of funding and congressional negotiations.
