Alleged deliberate facilitation of Russian military advances: U.S. lawmakers demand investigation into Starshield’s speed restrictions on Ukraine

Republican Senator Thom Tillis has called on the Pentagon Inspector General to investigate the limitations imposed on Starshield’s services in Ukraine and demanded a report be submitted to Congress. Tillis contends the fault most likely lies within the U.S. Department of Defense’s Starshield system rather than SpaceX’s Starlink network. He emphasized that the sudden restriction, implemented without prior notice, placed Ukrainian civilians, American diplomatic and security personnel at risk, and in the worst-case scenario, may have amounted to intentional conditions enabling Russian military operations.

Earlier, Starlink experienced throttling, prompting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to request Elon Musk lift the restrictions. Musk responded that he lacked authority over Starshield operations. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense continued direct communication with SpaceX, while the White House denied any involvement in setting the limitation.
