White House: The US will request China to expand rare earth exports during the talks.
Kevin Hassett, Chairman of the White House's International Economic Council, said that the US would request China to expand rare earth exports during the London talks with China.
Previously, President Trump mentioned that Treasury Secretary Bessette, Commerce Secretary Lutnik, and Trade Representative Grail would meet with the Chinese delegation in London on June 9 to mediate trade disputes between the two countries.
Hassett told CBS Television: "Vital metals should be exported on a large scale as before, not on the scale we previously thought was agreed upon in Geneva. We hope that important rare earth metals and magnets, which are crucial for devices like mobile phones, can be supplied as they were before early April."
Documents released by the official website of the Ministry of Commerce of China showed that China placed 16 US companies on the export control list in early April to control the export of dual-use commodities. The New York Times pointed out that Beijing suspended the export of many important metals and magnets necessary for automobiles, drones, robots, and missile assembly.
The Ministry of Commerce of China stated on June 7 that it is willing to strengthen dialogue with other countries regarding the export control of rare earth elements.
