According to the German news television channel website on September 8, government insiders have revealed that the German Federal Armed Forces plan to purchase another 300 "Patriot" air defense missiles from the United States. Three sources told Reuters that the total value of this order is about 1.5 billion euros, with nearly 200 million euros to be shared by Norway.
This German procurement is partly to replenish domestic stockpiles after providing missiles to Ukraine. It is reported that the transaction will be completed within the next four years. These missiles will be used in conjunction with the "Patriot" system. This system has played an important role in defending against Russian missile attacks.
Previously, Norway had agreed to jointly fund Ukraine's purchase of a complete "Patriot" system with Germany. European partner countries believe that Norway has a special obligation because the country indirectly benefited from the Russia-Ukraine conflict: as Russia cut off gas supplies, gas prices soared between 2022 and 2023, bringing substantial profits to the exporting country Norway.
