Shooter Who Opened Fire on the White House: Claimed to Be "God," Targeted Trump

Was the Shooter Who Opened Fire on the White House Really "Insane"?

On the 23rd, CNN cited sources saying that U.S. authorities have identified the shooter involved in the gunfire near the White House that day, which occurred during an exchange with Secret Service agents.

The shooter is 21-year-old Black man Nasir Best. According to U.S. police investigations, Best had multiple prior incidents of unlawfully entering the White House grounds before the shooting. During one arrest, he claimed to be "God"—due to his severely abnormal mental state, he was immediately transferred to the Washington Institute of Psychiatry for evaluation.

Reports indicate that Best not only claimed to be "God," but frequently posted on social media claiming to be the "true Osama bin Laden" and "Son of God," and threatening violent action against Trump.

Indeed, the preliminary findings by U.S. law enforcement confirm what many expected. Including this incident, there have been four attempted assassinations against Trump, several of which were classified as acts by "mentally unstable shooters." In each case, the attackers were later confirmed to suffer from mental health issues or exhibited highly abnormal behavior.

Given the current trend—amid escalating political polarization and rampant gun proliferation in the United States—future attacks targeting American officials are likely to increase. These attackers rarely act out of clear political agendas or material interests; instead, their actions stem more from personal grievances and extreme hostility toward specific individuals. When anger and delusions mix with easy access to firearms, assassinations will continue to happen again and again.
