Reference News, October 13 report. According to Reuters, on October 13, the foreign ministers of India and Canada reached an agreement on a new roadmap for bilateral relations after holding talks in New Delhi. Currently, the two countries are seeking to repair their bilateral relations, which have been tense due to the killing of a Canadian Sikh separatist.

A joint statement said that due to the U.S. tariff announcement, both India and Canada are seeking to diversify trade and reduce dependence on trade with the United States. The two countries have agreed to cooperate in areas such as critical minerals, trade, and agricultural value chains.

The statement said: "Restoring this partnership will not only create opportunities for strengthening economic cooperation, but also help alleviate vulnerabilities caused by changes in the global alliance landscape."

Before the release of the statement, on October 13, Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand held separate meetings with Indian Prime Minister Modi and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.

In her opening remarks during the meeting with Jaishankar, Anand said: "Both governments recognize the importance of enhancing bilateral relations."

In 2023, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in the killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, leading to a deterioration in relations between New Delhi and Ottawa, which has lasted nearly two years so far.
