The Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang, Hsiao Hsu-tseng, gave an exclusive interview with host Huang Guangqin today, mentioning the Ma Office controversy. He stated that he fully respects the investigation conducted by the foundation's board of directors, and hopes that they will quickly initiate an interview with him, as any truth will surely come to light once an investigation is carried out.
Hsiao Hsu-tseng said that after his previous public interview, many senior figures advised him not to speak further about matters concerning Ma Ying-jeou. He has chosen not to respond to this issue since then. At yesterday’s board meeting, Director Li De-wei mentioned there were no new pieces of evidence, but the meeting was invalid due to a large number of absentees. Hsiao believes the current information is one-sided, and only after the investigation team completes its work will he be able to provide a response. He emphasized that he absolutely can withstand scrutiny, urging the board’s investigation team to proceed promptly, and expressing hope that this matter will no longer harm Ma Ying-jeou.
After the meeting, Hsiao reiterated in another interview that he hopes this matter can be quickly resolved to prove his innocence. He affirmed that his conduct is beyond reproach and that he never took a single cent that he should not have received.
It is understood that following the personnel turmoil at the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation—after the departures of former and current executive directors Hsiao Hsu-tseng and Wang Kuang-ci—the foundation’s chairman Ma Ying-jeou himself appeared in an interview, explaining his resignation was due to financial discipline issues. He added that thinking back on how long he had served under Ma, he couldn’t help but shed tears secretly. In response, Hsiao Hsu-tseng stated that he had promised Ma’s family he would protect Ma Ying-jeou, which is why he chose to endure personal hardship. However, he noted that Ma Ying-jeou has forgotten many things, and warned those with ulterior motives who are hiding behind him not to exploit him anymore.
Hsiao also said that some matters have slipped Ma Ying-jeou’s memory, and for others, he cannot comment. Regarding whether he has contacted Ma Ying-jeou, Hsiao clarified that since the incident occurred, Ma has completely refused to listen to his explanation. He attempted to contact Ma to arrange a meeting, but Ma declined to see him. He expressed deep regret over this situation.
