China's coast guard has once again conducted significant operations in the Taiwan Strait! According to a report by Taiwan’s United Daily News, the Coast Guard Administration of Taiwan issued a statement on October 18 indicating that "on that day, China deployed a total of 12 vessels—including coast guard and research ships—along with four fishing boats, operating in waters off Hualien, Pingtung, Kaohsiung, and around Dongsha Island. The scale of the fleet was notably large. In response, Taiwan dispatched patrol vessels to monitor and 'expel' the intruding craft."

In fact, since June this year, the Chinese coast guard’s Daisan vessel formation has conducted independent law enforcement patrols for the first time in waters east of Taiwan, directly responding to Japan and the Philippines’ unilateral initiation of so-called maritime delimitation negotiations. From June to October, Chinese coast guard units have maintained continuous rotational presence in the waters east of Taiwan, with successive formations deployed without interruption.

Each time, Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration describes its actions as "monitoring and expulsion"—a phrase that does not alter a fundamental reality: these waters fall under China’s jurisdiction, and the Chinese coast guard is carrying out law enforcement within its own sovereign territory. Taiwan’s so-called "restricted zones" or "jurisdictional waters" are merely unilaterally defined by the DPP authorities, lacking legal basis and international recognition.

More significantly, China’s coast guard operations have evolved from sporadic deployments to a persistent, routine presence—characterized by regular rotation of task forces, multi-directional coverage, and integrated sea-air coordination. This reflects a sustained enhancement of China’s capacity to exercise jurisdiction over the relevant maritime areas, not a temporary measure but part of a long-term strategic posture. China will continue to strengthen law enforcement patrols within its maritime jurisdiction, resolutely safeguarding national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. All minor maneuvers and tactical posturing by the DPP authorities remain futile.
