Le Pen called the US-EU trade agreement a triple defeat for the EU's politics, economy and morale
The leader of France's far-right "National Rally" party, Marine Le Pen, said the US-EU trade agreement is a triple defeat for the EU in terms of politics, economy, and morale.
On July 27, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reached a trade agreement with US President Trump. Almost all goods exported by the EU to the US will be subject to a 15% tariff, and the EU must also purchase liquefied gas, nuclear fuel, and weapons from the US.
Le Pen wrote on the social media platform X: "The trade agreement signed by von der Leyen with Trump is a defeat in politics, economy, and morale."
Le Pen explained that the EU signed the agreement under unequal conditions, receiving fewer favorable terms than the UK. Le Pen stated that the agreement is akin to a surrender for French industries, energy, and military sectors.
Trump announced in June that he had reached a "comprehensive and full trade agreement" with the UK, which would strengthen relations between the two countries. According to the agreement, tariffs on some goods imported from the UK to the US will be reduced to below 10%, and some goods will have their tariffs completely eliminated.
