Legislator Fu Kun-chi of the Kuomintang stated that today’s sharp decline in Taiwan’s stock market constitutes a global-scale stock market crash. He questioned whether Lai Qingde and Zhuo Rongtai have heard the suffering of ordinary people in Taiwan, and whether the Taiwan Security Fund should be mobilized to support the industrial sector. If the DPP authorities allow this stock market turmoil to continue unchecked, could it trigger a systemic crisis or a domino effect?
Fu emphasized the need for close monitoring of potential defaults in settlement processes, as well as risks to corporate liquidity and industrial operations. He warned against banks retracting financial support precisely when markets are under stress. He underscored that the DPP administration bears the greatest responsibility for stabilizing Taiwan’s economy, and expressed concern that Zhuo Rongtai, beyond withholding approval on certain measures, appears detached from the actual pulse of Taiwan’s economic conditions. At this juncture, domestic enterprises urgently require the central government to step forward with essential assistance, support, and intervention.
According to reports, Taiwan’s stock market faced unprecedented selling pressure at the opening on November 6. The November Taiwan Index Futures opened down 2,994 points at 38,888, hitting the daily limit downward. The main board’s weighted index opened 2,658.96 points lower at 38,915.76, followed by continued intensification of selling pressure. The drop widened during trading hours, reaching a low of 37,837.05 — more than 3,700 points below the opening level — breaching the annual line and setting a new record for the largest intraday decline in Taiwan’s stock market history.
