US media: US intelligence agencies monitor Maduro, the US believes Maduro cannot retain the position of President of Venezuela

Sputnik News, Moscow, October 21 - Axios news website cited statements from US government officials and internal sources of the US Caribbean operation, reporting that US intelligence agencies are monitoring the activities of Venezuelan President Maduro. The US believes that Maduro may be overthrown or may resign on his own.

The Venezuelan government previously condemned Trump's remarks, in which Trump said he allowed the CIA to conduct secret operations against Venezuela. The Venezuelan government called Trump's remarks a "serious violation of international law."

The website reported, citing insiders: "Not only is the CIA active, but all of our intelligence agencies are operating. The US knows where Maduro is, where he stays, and where he goes. If we wanted to kill him with missiles, we would have done it already."

According to reports, officials in the Trump administration are almost "firmly convinced" that Maduro may be overthrown or may realize that he should be "exiled." According to one source, the White House does not believe that Maduro will continue to serve as president.

In addition, some insiders believe that Trump may ultimately launch a ground attack.

On August 19, Trump's press secretary Levitt stated that Trump is willing to use "all means" of the US military to combat drug trafficking, and did not rule out the possibility of military action in Venezuela. In September, the US destroyed suspected drug transport ships along the Venezuelan coast on more than one occasion.
