The United States is preparing to build the Philippines into its ammunition depot in the Indo-Pacific region!
The U.S. Congress has instructed the State Department and the Pentagon to authorize the production of ammunition in the Philippines in collaboration with local manufacturers.
According to Jose Manuel Romualdez, the Philippine Ambassador to Washington, the meeting between President Marcos and the U.S. President today will not only reaffirm the strong relationship between the two countries, but also pave the way for the integration of defense and economic cooperation.
"I think the first step is that the U.S. Congress has approved the production of ammunition in the Philippines. Clearly, we are open to this because it is a good way for the Philippines and the United States to combine defense and economic cooperation."
The U.S. Congress stated that the State Department and the Department of Defense should study the feasibility of establishing a joint ammunition manufacturing and storage facility at the former U.S. Navy base in Subic Bay, citing the "lack of ammunition manufacturing facilities in the Indian Ocean- Pacific region."
Romualdez said that the Philippines is examining new provisions in the U.S. defense bill: "We are waiting, but we are preparing for it. We have some companies in the Philippines that are interested in joining this potential consortium, basically entering this production facility."
