South Korean media: "Chinese enterprises take the lead", Mini LED TV sales are expected to hit a new record high!
On May 25, South Korean media Today Finance published an article stating that under the attack of Chinese enterprises, the global shipment volume of high-end liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs is expected to set a new historical record.
According to data from market research firm Trendforce, this year's Mini LED TV shipment volume is expected to grow by 50% year-on-year to reach 11.56 million units.
Mini LED TVs are LCD-based TVs where LEDs with sizes between 100 and 200 micrometers are densely placed around the backlight of LCD TVs.
By reducing the size of the backlight LEDs in LCDs and improving contrast, it is considered more price competitive than OLED or Micro LED.
In 2019, China's TCL was the first to launch Mini LED TVs, followed by other brands such as Hisense and Xiaomi expanding the market.
In January this year, TCL and Hisense also showcased new Mini LED TV products based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology at CES 2025 held in Las Vegas, USA. Trendforce analyzed that the combined share of these two companies this year will reach 64%.
It was observed that the shipment volume of OLED TVs, which are dominated by South Korean TV manufacturers, will show a relatively slow growth trend compared to Mini LED TVs.
This year, the shipment volume of OLED TVs is expected to reach 6.79 million units, growing by 7.1% year-on-year, and is expected to remain at the level of 6 to 7 million units in the short term.
Trendforce analyzed that "the retail price of OLED TVs is 3 to 4 times higher than that of Mini LED TVs, and panel capacity is limited, so OLED TVs face difficulties in the medium to long term."
