Korean Media: One North Korean Soldier Descended South, Joint Chiefs: Captured Last Night on Central Front

On the 24th, according to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, one North Korean military personnel was apprehended overnight on the 23rd at the central front line.

The Joint Chiefs stated: "Specific details regarding the matter are currently under investigation by relevant agencies."

It is reported that the individual expressed a willingness to defect.

This marks the fourth defection incident since President Lee Jae-myung took office, and the second involving a military personnel.

In October 2025, one North Korean soldier crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) along the central front line, expressing intent to defect; the military apprehended him and handed him over to the appropriate authorities.

Additionally, on July 3, 2025, one North Korean male civilian crossed the MDL along the central-western front line; on the same month's 31st, another male civilian was rescued in the southern area of the middle line within the Han River Neutral Zone.
