Germany's arms exports exceed China, becoming the world's fourth-largest arms seller

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a Swedish think tank, released a new report on March 9 stating that Germany's arms exports have significantly increased in recent years, surpassing China and becoming the world's fourth-largest exporter of heavy weapons.

In the past five years, Germany's position as a global arms exporter has clearly improved. According to a report released by Sipri on Monday, Germany rose from fifth to fourth place in the global ranking of heavy weapons exporters between 2021 and 2025, surpassing China.

Europe is the most important export region for German arms. According to SIPRI data, about 24% of Germany's arms exports are provided as military aid to Ukraine. In addition to Europe, German arms are also exported to the Middle East and various regions in Asia.

Among Germany's European allies, Poland (+4,387%) and Italy (+157%) showed particularly significant growth in arms exports. Currently, Italy has become the world's sixth-largest arms exporter.

China ranks fifth in global arms exports, with its arms exports increasing by 11%. Compared to the previous five years, China's arms imports have dropped sharply by 72%. Sipr i pointed out that this is because China has greatly enhanced its own defense industry production capacity.
