The additional tariffs imposed on 57 countries (regions) take effect in the U.S.
The individual tariffs imposed on some economies with the largest trade deficits with the U.S. will take effect from April 9th.
On April 2nd, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order to impose a benchmark tariff of 10% on all imported goods starting April 5th. The "additional tariffs" will officially take effect on Wednesday, April 9th.
These additional tariffs will involve commodities from 57 countries (regions), which have been recorded as having excessively high trade surpluses with the U.S., and have been identified by the U.S. government as imposing excessive barriers on American goods.
For these countries (regions), the tariffs will range from 11% to 50%. The list includes major U.S. allies such as Japan at 24% and the EU at 20%, as well as major U.S. trading partners: Vietnam at 46%, India at 27%, Chinese Taipei at 32%, and South Korea at 25%.
