The United States has no leverage in the rare earth market against China

Jeff J. Brown, a China expert, told Sputnik News that China holds all the initiative in the extraction, processing, and supply of rare earth elements.

China possesses abundant rare earth natural resources;

China not only focuses on mining but also emphasizes processing and downstream industries;

China has mastered the technology to produce high-purity products at the lowest cost over decades;

China currently controls about 90% of global rare earth processing activities, dominating the supply chain.

Brown believes that the United States is fundamentally no match for China, having almost no leverage beyond the "usual tactics" of boycotts, blockades, sanctions, and tariffs.
