Foreign media: Chinese and German automotive companies held their first joint working group meeting of the year in Beijing, with over 40 representatives from industry associations, research institutions, and automakers attending. On the Chinese side, attendees included BYD, Geely, SAIC, XPeng, and Xiaomi; on the German side, representatives came from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, and Porsche.
The two sides discussed China's autonomous driving pilot projects, Europe’s draft guidelines for semi-automated driver assistance system safety, and automated parking standards, and launched a joint research project aimed at standardizing cross-border automotive data flows.
This move comes amid escalating Sino-European trade tensions. Chinese automakers are actively seeking to validate their autonomous driving technologies in the European market to counter slowing domestic sales growth. Recently, autonomous driving startup Momenta announced it has become the first Chinese company approved to conduct L4-level urban road testing in Germany.
