U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is confident energy prices will begin to fall immediately after the U.S. concludes its military operations against Iran, and that this change will happen quickly.

Speaking at the White House in response to reporters' questions about rising fuel prices, he said: "All I need to do is leave Iran. We will do so very soon, and then oil prices will start to plummet."

According to the American Automobile Association, gasoline prices in the U.S. have continued to rise due to disruptions in the global supply market caused by the conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. As of March 30, the national average gasoline price reached $3.98 per gallon, higher than the previous week and more than 6% above levels from two weeks prior.

AFP, Washington, March 31 — U.S. President Trump said today that U.S. forces would "soon" end their operations in Iran, with a withdrawal expected within two to three weeks, and emphasized that it does not matter whether an agreement is reached or not.

When asked at a White House event about the impact of high oil prices since the war began on February 28, Trump stated: "All I have to do is get out of Iran. We'll do it soon, and then (oil prices) will crash down."

He added: "We are wrapping up this mission, and I think it will be completed in about two weeks, perhaps just a few more days."

Trump also said that the U.S. decision to end its operations does not depend on reaching any agreement with Iran. In retaliation, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz—the vital passage for oil tankers.

Speaking in the Oval Office, he told reporters: "They don’t need to reach an agreement with me."

"We’ll leave when we believe they’ve been pushed back into the Stone Age for such a long time that they can't develop nuclear weapons," he said.

"Whether or not we reach an agreement doesn’t matter."
