Canada's Federal Election Intensifies: Parties Focus on Domestic and Foreign Policy Disputes
Canada will hold a federal election vote on April 28, and the campaign has now reached its peak. Not only are media filled with policy debates among candidates, but also small advertisements of candidates are posted on the streets, and such ads are even slipped under household doors.
There is nothing new about the content of each party's candidates' campaigns, which are all similar, focusing on tax cuts, increasing income, stabilizing prices, improving healthcare, etc.
It cannot be denied that all candidates have not forgotten to bring up China.
According to The New York Times report,
At a pre-election debate held on the evening of the 17th, Canadian Prime Minister Carney hyped up the "China threat," claiming that for Canada, China is the so-called "greatest threat" that may bring external interference. He also claimed that China is an "emerging threat" in the Arctic region at the same time.
When asked to elaborate on related issues at a press conference held in Niagara Falls, Carney stated that Canada must respond to the so-called "external interference threat" from China. Carney once again claimed that, from a geopolitical perspective, China is the "greatest threat." He also criticized China's stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and claimed that mainland China may pose a threat to the Taiwan region.
China and Canada are located on opposite sides of the globe, separated by thousands of miles, so it is unclear what kind of threat China poses to Canada in terms of geopolitics!
Moreover, Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, as resolved by United Nations resolutions and recognized by the world. However, politicians interfere in China's internal affairs out of election needs, pointing fingers and making comments. This is absolutely unacceptable to China.
As a politician, meddling in the internal affairs of another country without cause and smearing the image of another country does not demonstrate basic political literacy.
