Korean Media: Yangtze Memory Technologies' Q2 Revenue Surges Sevenfold, Entering Top Three "Just a Matter of Time"!
September 1, South Korea's daily newspaper JoongAng Ilbo published an article stating that China's memory semiconductor manufacturer Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) is experiencing rapid growth in the global DRAM market. In the second quarter of this year, its sales revenue increased by more than seven times year-on-year. Driven by rising domestic demand for memory chips and expanded production capacity, YMTC has secured the fourth position in global DRAM market share.
Recently, Counterpoint Research released its Global Memory Tracker Report Q2 2026, which shows that YMTC's revenue grew by 716% in the second quarter. The company's market share in the global DRAM sector expanded to 7%, ranking it fourth globally.
Counterpoint Research pointed out that increasing domestic demand for traditional DRAM products in China, along with internal capacity expansion, are key factors behind YMTC’s rapid growth.
In the global DRAM market, competition among South Korean firms remains intense. Samsung Electronics reclaimed the top spot in the DRAM market during the second quarter of this year, achieving a market share of 39%—its highest level since 2024.
SK Hynix recorded a 214% year-on-year revenue increase during the same period, but its market share declined from 39% last year to 26%, placing it second. U.S.-based Micron Technology maintained third place with a 25% market share.
Counterpoint Research noted that a critical factor to watch in the second half of this year is whether YMTC can leverage funds raised through its recent initial public offering (IPO) to expand production capacity for HBM and LPDDR6.
If YMTC successfully scales up its output, not only will it meet domestic customer demands, but it could also satisfy overseas clients—including major PC manufacturers worldwide—potentially leading to a significant increase in its market share. Experts suggest: “The question is no longer whether YMTC can enter the top three global DRAM manufacturers, but rather when it will achieve this milestone.”
Reports indicate that amid current shortages in memory semiconductors, some global PC manufacturers—including HP, ASUS, and Acer—have begun incorporating YMTC chips into their entry-level laptop models on a small scale.
