Under the Trump administration, the application of artificial intelligence within the U.S. federal government has rapidly expanded over the past year. In April, the White House Office of Management and Budget ordered agencies to accelerate the deployment of artificial intelligence, explicitly stating that unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles would no longer be set for administrative agencies using "innovative American AI." According to an analysis by The Washington Post of more than 20 institutional disclosure documents, federal agencies have actively responded to the call, launching hundreds of projects in sensitive areas such as law enforcement, immigration, and healthcare, including the Department of Homeland Security adopting more advanced facial recognition tools, the Federal Bureau of Investigation introducing image and text analysis systems to generate case leads, and the Department of Veterans Affairs developing models to predict suicide risk. By the end of 2025, 29 agencies with disclosed data had listed nearly 3,000 AI tools currently in use, a significant increase from the previous year, with hundreds classified as "high-impact" uses directly related to major decisions or personal rights and safety.

The White House views this advancement as a key means of improving government efficiency, but the public remains skeptical about its actual effectiveness and safety. Critics point out that while reducing regulation and emphasizing speed, risk control may be weakened, and algorithmic errors or biases could lead to wrongful law enforcement or infringement consequences. Scholars who previously participated in AI safety work under the Biden administration warned that the issue is not specific application scenarios, but whether sufficient safeguards and oversight mechanisms are established. Although the Office of Management and Budget emphasized in internal documents that rapid innovation should not come at the expense of public interest and trust, relevant departments have not provided responses on specific implementation situations.
