U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance criticized the decision by Germany to designate the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) as a far-right organization, following U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Elon Musk.
In a post on social platform X, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the AfD is "the most popular party in Germany and undoubtedly the most representative party in East Germany," criticizing the German authorities' attempt to destroy this political party.
"The AfD is the most popular party in Germany and undoubtedly the most representative party in East Germany. Today, bureaucrats are attempting to dismantle it. The Berlin Wall was once torn down with joint efforts from the West, but now it has been rebuilt—not by the Soviets or Russians, but by people within the German system."
Prior to this, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Elon Musk also expressed dissatisfaction with Germany's classification of the AfD as far-right.
The AfD has sparked widespread controversy in German politics due to its anti-immigration, anti-EU, and conservative nationalist stance. Recently, Germany's domestic intelligence agency announced that it would classify certain organizations of the party as "suspected far-right groups."
