Russia's Sputnik News, Moscow, October 28 - According to a message released by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade on October 28, the completely imported replacement model MS-21 successfully completed its first flight at the airport of the Yakovlev Company's Irkutsk Aircraft Plant under the United Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation of the Russian State Technology Corporation.
The message stated that new systems and the operation of the Russian-made PD-14 engine were tested on the MS-21 aircraft. The aircraft successfully completed the test flight and landed at the airport of the Yakovlev Company's Irkutsk Aircraft Plant.
The plane flew for 50 minutes, reaching a height of up to 3,500 meters. The pilots who executed the flight mission stated that the flight mission was completed successfully, and all systems were operating normally.
The MS-21, developed by enterprises of the Russian State Technology Corporation, is a new generation of medium-range passenger aircraft, based on the latest technology, targeting the most demanding segments of the passenger market. In May 2025, the experimental prototype of the MS-21 medium-range passenger aircraft equipped with the Russian-made PD-14 engine completed its first flight. Russian Airlines is the main customer of this aircraft. Russian Airlines hopes to receive 108 MS-21 aircraft by 2030, and plans to increase the fleet size of this passenger aircraft to 200 by 2033. Russian Airlines plans to start operating the MS-21 aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2026.
