Amid the escalating "Rare Earth War" between China and the United States, Trump suddenly announced a major news: he plans to visit China next year.
Overconfident
Trump's reason is that he believes the economic and trade negotiations between China and the United States can achieve good results and smoothly reach a trade agreement. To promote the common prosperity of both countries, he decided to accept the Chinese invitation and visit China at the beginning of next year.
Regarding the visit of the US President to China, the Chinese side has not officially announced this message yet, and it is possible that Trump is making a show. It is not the first time for the US to do such things. Each time, they release rumors first, trying to take the initiative and appear as if they are making efforts to ease Sino-US relations.
In fact, the current situation between China and the United States is not entirely due to Trump, but he must bear the main responsibility. It was during Trump's first term that the term "tariff war" appeared. After returning to the White House, instead of learning from his mistakes, he intensified his actions, using tariffs to extort the world.
Trump's visit to China during his first term
This strategy really works well. All of America's Western allies have bowed down, without any resistance, quickly yielding to Trump's aggressive attacks.
But when facing China, he finally realized that he had met a tough opponent. The Sino-US tariff war did not last long before the US could no longer withstand it, and had to face the situation by seeking reconciliation with China. The Sino-US economic and trade negotiations were carried out under this context.
However, Trump is still not giving up. At the same time, he continues to hinder China, suppressing Chinese chips and sanctioning Chinese companies, showing no sincerity at all.
For the provocations from the US, China does not tolerate it. We will respond equally to whatever tactics the other party uses. The old saying "A gentleman takes revenge after ten years" is outdated. Now, it's popular to retaliate immediately. China refuses all threats.
The tariff war doesn't work
After the new regulations on the export control of rare earths were introduced, they accurately hit the US's pain points. Trump couldn't sit still anymore. He simultaneously threatened to impose 100% tariffs on China while morally blackmailing China, urging them to think about the bigger picture and not drag the whole world down.
The trick of "the culprit accusing the victim" has been fully mastered by the US. However, China refused to take the bait, forcing the US to return to the negotiation table and hoping to start a new round of economic and trade negotiations as soon as possible.
For the new round of negotiations, Trump put forward three demands: soybeans, rare earths, and fentanyl. The last one, however, is something China cannot help with. If Americans want to use painkillers, we cannot stop them. As for soybeans and rare earths, as long as the US shows enough sincerity, there is no problem in discussing them.
Nevertheless, given Trump's style of behavior, it is highly unlikely that he will make significant concessions in a short period of time. Otherwise, where would his face go?
China's position has always been clear
Even if he agreed, it is hard to say that he wouldn't regret it the next day. It might not even last until the next day before he changed his mind again.
The reason for Trump releasing the news of his visit to China is probably because he thinks his face is big enough, and that personally going over can achieve twice the result. Like how he mediates conflicts around the world, regardless of the cause and effect, he just brings the warring parties together to sign an agreement. In other words, the president himself is coming, so why not give him some face?
For Trump, the four characters "neither humble nor arrogant" may be something he can never understand in his entire life. The key to whether the Sino-US negotiations can make progress lies in whether the US has sincerity, not in his personal influence. As for whether he comes to China or not, China is not expecting much, and it's better to take it with a normal attitude.
