Korean media: China's renewable energy generation growth exceeds the total of the rest of the world!
On November 6, the Korean media outlet "NEWSPIM" published an article stating that research found China's new renewable energy generation exceeds the total of the rest of the world.
A recent report by the global climate think tank Ember showed that renewable energy generation exceeded coal power generation in the first half of this year, becoming the main source of electricity globally for the first time.
Ember also announced that in the first half of this year, the growth of China's renewable energy generation exceeded the total of the rest of the world.
According to Ember's report, the global solar power generation increased by 31% year-on-year in the first half of this year, and wind power generation increased by 7.7%. Both solar and wind power generation increased by 400 terawatt-hours (TWh), exceeding the increase in global electricity demand during the same period. Ember added that renewable energy is sufficient to meet the growing global electricity demand.
Ember pointed out that China is leading in the development of renewable energy, while the United States and European countries have a higher dependence on fossil fuels than ever before.
In Europe, wind and hydro power generation has been low for several months, while coal and natural gas power generation has been increasing. In addition, in the United States, renewable energy growth is slowing down due to policies of the Trump administration.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that the gap between China and the West in renewable energy will further widen in the future.
Ember also reported that by July this year, the export value of China's electric vehicles, solar, batteries, and wind energy reached 120 billion U.S. dollars. By contrast, the U.S. oil and gas exports by July this year were only 80 billion U.S. dollars. The export value of China's new energy products has already exceeded the U.S. fossil fuel exports.
Among them, the export value of China's electric vehicles, solar, batteries, and wind energy products in August reached 20 billion U.S. dollars, setting a new record high.
Bloomberg forecasts: "China has an advantage in renewable energy, while the United States has an advantage in fossil fuels, creating billions of U.S. dollars in export revenue annually. Compared to low-carbon goods, higher-priced fossil fuel exports may bring more profits to the United States, but China's influence among major renewable energy importers will only grow larger."
