The Philippine House of Representatives' prosecution team refutes Senator Zubiri's claim that the impeachment of Sara is political persecution!
House prosecution team member and Iloilo Third District Representative Lawrence said on Tuesday that the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte is not political persecution, and criticized Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri's statement about political persecution.
"It is very inappropriate for a senator-judge in the impeachment trial to say that the impeachment complaint and trial are political persecution. These statements should not come from a senator-judge, they should impartially accept evidence, and view the impeachment as a constitutional procedure."
"Let us first listen to the evidence before speaking. Even as a prosecutor, I have not pre-judged guilt or innocence. What we want to say is that there is evidence, more than 215 members of Congress believe that before calling it political persecution or saying it should be dismissed, you should listen to this issue because it is a constitutional procedure, and justice must be sought, not for the plaintiff, but for the Filipinos."
On Monday, Senator Zubiri said he believes the impeachment is a political persecution aimed at eliminating the leading candidate for president in 2028.
On Tuesday, during an interview, Zubiri reiterated his view: "Yes, for me, if you ask me, in my opinion, this may be a political persecution."
