U.S. Navy: The U.S. Hopes Taiwan Becomes as Strong as Possible

Daryl Caudell, Chief of Naval Operations of the U.S. Navy, stated that the United States hopes Taiwan becomes as strong as possible.

Earlier Thursday, China's Embassy in the United States told Sputnik News that China firmly opposes arms sales from the United States to China's Taiwan region, a position that is consistent, clear, and resolute.

Speaking during a hearing before the U.S. Senate, Caudell said regarding the issue of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan: "Naturally, we hope Taiwan becomes as strong as possible."

He also noted that weapons potentially sold to Taiwan could make its military capabilities "more effective."

China regards Taiwan as an inseparable part of China, adhering to the "One China" principle, which is a condition that countries must abide by if they wish to establish or maintain diplomatic relations with China. Arms sales by the United States to Taiwan remain one of the key points of tension in U.S.-China relations.
