Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has rejected the proposal made by Chinese Ambassador to Australia XIAO Qian to jointly resist and respond to US tariff bullying.

He said, "I don't think we will move forward together with China."

"We obviously do not want to see a trade war break out between China and the United States... but it is about safeguarding Australia's national interests, rather than speaking in one voice with China."

He stated that Australia will safeguard its own interests by diversifying trade, strengthening ties with Indonesia, India, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates, and reducing dependence on China.
