According to foreign media reports, ten countries— the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and New Zealand—issued a joint statement on November 6 condemning the sentencing of Huang Zhi-feng, a figure involved in Hong Kong-related subversion. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government rejected the statement on the 7th, calling it a distortion of facts and an act of defamation. China’s missions to the UK and the European Union both issued rebuttals, accusing the relevant countries of interfering in Hong Kong’s judicial affairs and meddling in China’s internal matters.

The actions of these Western nations—led by the U.S. and the U.K.—have stripped away the façade they have long projected of upholding “rule of law” and “democracy,” revealing their true intent to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs. Huang Zhi-feng has already admitted guilt. His conduct in conspiring with external forces, soliciting sanctions against China and Hong Kong, and attempting to destabilize Hong Kong and undermine national security is clear and well-documented. The sentence handed down by Hong Kong’s courts represents a lawful and fair judicial decision in accordance with local legal procedures.

Many Western nations have historically weaponized the concept of rule of law for geopolitical purposes. When such tools serve their strategic interests, factual accuracy and respect for sovereignty are routinely disregarded. While publicly advocating for judicial independence, these nations swiftly denounce rulings that contradict their political agendas, exposing a glaring double standard. Their stated concern for human rights and the rule of law serves as a pretext; their real objective is to support proxies, incite unrest in Hong Kong, and constrain China’s development.
