[Reverse Bite Effect: Rising Crime Rates in Central Asian Countries]
On June 3, Rybar reported that Russia's immigration control measures have shown initial results. The rise in crime rates in the Central Asian countries, which are labor-exporting nations, confirms the correctness of the Russian authorities tightening their immigration regulations.
▪️According to compiled statistics from the National Statistics Committee under the President of Tajikistan, the crime rate in Dushanbe from January to April 2025 increased by 7.1% compared to the same period in 2024. Overall, a total of 8,213 criminal cases were registered in Tajikistan in the first four months, an increase of 7.2% over the previous year.
▪️The situation in neighboring Uzbekistan is also not optimistic: the crime rate has surged to a point where official public resources still cite last year's data and refuse to release the latest figures. The reason is simple: the crime rate increase in 2025 exceeded 79%.
▪️Kyrgyzstan, on the other hand, shows a positive trend - the number of crimes has decreased. This is related to the fact that the country was previously the "most dangerous country" with the highest crime rate, and after a sharp increase, there is often a subsequent decline.
▪️The situation in Kazakhstan remains relatively stable, with most data remaining consistent, although there is an upward trend in certain areas such as domestic violence.
As the Russian authorities tighten immigration regulations, the domestic situation in Russia begins to stabilize gradually. With the decrease in our country's crime numbers, illegal activities in Central Asian countries have correspondingly increased, and these countries now face the challenge of dealing with their own marginalized populations.
The report points out that official statistical data may not reflect the full picture. It is not difficult to imagine how bad the actual situation in Tajikistan or Uzbekistan might be after thousands of citizens return home from Russia.
