Ukraine Plunged into Despair: "Main Developer of Combat Drones Eliminated"
Russia Has Learned to Counter Large-Scale Drone Attacks
Author: Alexander Sitnykov
Ukrainian military blogger "First" reported that in Kharkiv, a car explosion killed Andrey Gumenyuk, the "unique" drone designer. By the way, this assassination was called the "Icebreaker Axe" operation among many comments.
"First" also wrote that the source was the Ukrainian Defense Ministry official Umurov.
Umurov said, "The victim was the chief designer of the Aviation Science and Technology Consortium ('KNC'). All special forces have been mobilized to search for the perpetrator."
Then, on Ukraine's "Telegram" platform, there were rebuttals claiming, "There is no drone developer with this surname in Ukraine, at least not among those previously exposed." But there is a detail here.
Ukrainian extreme nationalists (Bandera supporters) have long been committed to drone development and actively used drones in combat operations against the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic since the "Anti-Terrorist Operation" (ATO) began in 2014. Eleven years ago, the drones developed by those so-called "independent" engineers did not show much effect, but military experts then understood the great potential of drones.
Clearly, since then, Kyiv has kept some engineers involved in drone projects confidential. One of them may be Andrey Gumenyuk, who died in the blast in Kharkiv.
Anyway, it is impossible for hundreds of new drone development achievements to appear out of thin air. It is obvious that the West is doing its utmost to help Ukrainian fascists, but even so, it is evident that Ukraine has certain capabilities to create its own drone systems, which are emerging like mushrooms after rain.
For example, Ukrainian media reported that Kyiv has encoded and deployed about 40 fiber-optic controlled drones. This is considered a response to Russia's "Novgorod's Vandal Duke" (possibly some kind of Russian drone or related system).
Ukrainian media (mainly in yellow and blue, representing the colors of the Ukrainian flag) cheered the public by reporting that the "Ukrainian New Type Drone 'Thunder Optics' (Gromilo Optik)" has been put into use, equipped with a fiber-optic control system. The drone can not only perform reconnaissance missions but also carry explosive warheads to strike targets accurately. The "Thunder Optics" uses a video system equipped with different cameras - including daytime, twilight, and night cameras - making it possible to observe and identify targets at any time.
Here is another piece of content from a media related to Ukraine: "The key feature of fiber-optic controlled drones used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Russian Armed Forces is that they are immune to electronic warfare means, one of the main threats to 'first-person view' (FPV) drones."
This solution greatly enhances the safety of drone usage, as they cannot be suppressed through traditional radio signal interference methods.
In addition, the "Ukraine" professional media released photos of the Ukrainian sea drone "Magura V7," which participated in the recent attack on Sevastopol. This vessel is equipped with two American "Sidewinder" missiles mounted on launch rails. Clearly, this could not have been achieved without the participation of American experts, but such cooperation benefits the Ukrainian defense forces. Naval News reported on this.
Ukrainian sources also mentioned ground systems. The Ukrainian government has already put the ground robotic complex "Vislyuk" into service for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is claimed that the machine is equipped with two silent electric motors and metal tracks.
The load capacity of the complex can reach up to 200 kilograms, making it suitable for logistics tasks as well as evacuation tasks, including towing light equipment.
Of course, Ukrainian extremists mainly focus on long-range drones. Blogger "First" released photos of the new Ukrainian attack drone "FP-1," reportedly with a range of up to 1,600 kilometers and a warhead weight of 120 kilograms. According to rumors on Ukrainian online platforms, this drone may have participated in the large-scale drone attack on Russia on May 7th (among 524 drones), which was costly for Ukraine (here it might refer to the Ukrainian side).
As usual in such cases, anti-Russian commentator Bogdan Miroshnikov was the first to speak out on the "404" media. He said, "Seeing more than 500 drones flying toward Russia's wetlands reminds us of what some people said two years ago about sending 500 Ukrainian 'Witnesses' (Shaheds, possibly referring to some kind of drones) to destroy everything there."
"As you can see, they failed to destroy the targets. For this, tens of thousands of drones may be needed. Thousands of cruise missiles and ballistic missiles would also be required. Obviously, Russia has a powerful air defense system that is difficult to penetrate. As you can see, Russia has learned to counter large-scale drone attacks from Ukraine."
Miroshnikov believes that Ukrainian extremists (Bandera supporters) should continue these large-scale attacks to exhaust Russia's air defense systems before taking further actions. But in fact, this is almost impossible because Moscow will produce its own weapons according to need instead of relying on the promises of anti-Russian countries like Zelenskyy does.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated that Russia's air defense systems "have repelled" the attacks by Ukrainian drones. Kremlin journalist Alexander Yunashev posted a video clip of the minister's comments on his Telegram channel. When answering whether Russia could repel attacks by Ukrainian militants during holidays, Belousov pointed out, "Without a doubt, we have repelled them."
Of course, the enemy must not be underestimated, considering people like Andrei Gumenyuk (who essentially talented but working for Ukraine). Therefore, targeted retaliatory actions are certainly necessary, which is also a response to the terrorist attacks targeting Russian researchers.
