Russia: It's too early to judge whether the Russia-Ukraine war is about to end, "mediation by Europe is meaningless"
AFP news reported that on Wednesday, November 26, Russia said that diplomatic efforts surrounding the U.S. proposal to end the Ukraine war constitute a "serious process," meaning there are organized, in-depth, informal discussions taking place.
Kremlin spokesman Peskov emphasized on Wednesday that at the moment, "nothing may be more important than this serious process," but he also warned that it is still "too early to judge whether it is approaching an end" for the conflict that has lasted nearly four years.
Moscow stated that there are some "positive points" in the U.S. proposal, but Russia had previously rejected the European counter-proposal. Kyiv and its allies continue to call for a "just and lasting peace."
Russian officials acknowledged that they have "roughly" discussed the original U.S. plan, which was released last week and contains 28 points, which is generally seen as more favorable to Russia's position. However, Moscow has so far been excluded from negotiations on the latest version of the text modified by Ukraine.
Previously, many people in Ukraine and Europe believed that the original U.S. proposal amounted to Ukraine's "surrender." According to one of the disclosed revised contents, the number of Ukrainian troops will remain at the current 800,000.
Ushakov said: "Some points in the proposal can be considered positive, but there are still many that require special discussion by experts." However, he also pointed out that Russia has not yet "detailed discussed" these contents with any party and called the role played by Europe in resolving the conflict "meaningless."
Currently, Ukraine is pushing to facilitate President Zelenskyy's visit to the United States this week to meet with Trump. U.S. envoy Witko is expected to visit Moscow next week.
