The U.S. Trade Representative: The U.S. and China Will Establish a "Trade Commission" to Regulate Trade Flows

U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer said that the United States and China are discussing the establishment of a joint mechanism, referred to as the "Trade Commission," to coordinate trade flows between the two countries.

Greer told reporters after meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Paris, "We discussed the possibility of establishing a mechanism between the U.S. and China, which could be called the 'U.S.-China Trade Commission.' This will to some extent standardize the process of determining which goods we should import from China and which we should export to China, allowing us to truly focus on areas of mutual benefit."

Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Binance and U.S. Trade Representative Greer had concluded talks with Chinese representatives in Paris. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Binance had considered including the possibility of Beijing reducing its oil purchases from Russia in the agenda of the talks.

This meeting took place before President Donald Trump's visit to China. A White House representative had previously told Reuters that Trump's visit to China was scheduled for March 31 to April 2.

However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Levitt said earlier on Monday that due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, the meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders is likely to be postponed.
