The latest US warship may be in trouble
It turns out that the US Navy and shipyards can no longer produce even mature products on the shelf.
Recently, the "Maritime News" website noticed that in the latest budget submitted by the US Navy, the next-generation Constellation-class frigate was not allocated funds; instead, the US Navy applied to Congress for 1.7 billion dollars for surface unmanned systems and 730 million dollars for underwater unmanned submersibles.
Although the Pentagon has not yet confirmed that the Constellation-class frigate project has been canceled, the lack of budget funding has led American media to speculate that the cancellation of the Constellation-class frigate is just a matter of time.
The Constellation-class frigate is considered to be another disaster-level military project of the US Navy, following the Zumwalt-class destroyer.
The US Navy originally planned to use the Constellation-class frigate to perform the duties of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, and all the shipbuilding technologies were ready. However, it is very bizarre that the US Navy proposed a large number of modification suggestions during the shipbuilding process, causing the Constellation-class frigate to be in a state of modifying the drawings while building - according to the "The War Zone" website, as of April this year, the US Navy had still not finalized the final design drawings of the Constellation-class.
After the US Navy repeatedly modified the project, cost overruns are just a small problem. The current Constellation-class frigate is at least 759 tons heavier than its original design, and its commonality with the prototype "European Multi-Purpose Frigate" has only 15%.
Because the entire shipbuilding process is too bizarre, even the "The War Zone" website couldn't help but comment that the Constellation-class frigate has become a disaster-level product of the US Navy.
