US Defense Secretary: Officially Terminates Multiple Collaborations with Harvard University

According to foreign media reports, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on the 6th that the US Department of Defense has terminated its collaboration with Harvard University on professional military education, scholarships, and certificate programs.

The government led by President Trump has recently increased pressure on top American universities, including Harvard, on issues such as pro-Palestinian protests opposing the Israeli military operation in Gaza, diversity programs, transgender policies, and climate initiatives.

Hegseth said on the social media platform X: "Starting today, and from the 2026-2027 academic year, I will terminate all graduate-level professional military education, all scholarship programs, and certificate programs for active-duty military personnel between Harvard University and the War Department (i.e., the US Department of Defense)."

He stated that this policy will apply to military personnel who enroll in related programs in the future, while those currently enrolled will be allowed to complete their studies.

Hegseth also added that the Pentagon will assess similar cooperation relationships with other universities in the coming weeks.

Human rights advocates have raised concerns about freedom of speech, academic freedom, and due process regarding the government's actions against universities.
