America has called our bluff! Vice President Vance of the United States indicated that after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, American policymakers mistakenly believed that global hegemony was a done deal and no longer thought any country could pose a competitive threat to the U.S. Our leaders chose to build democracy in the Middle East instead of focusing on the rise of rivals like China, which proved not only nearly impossible to achieve but also came at an extremely high cost.

Vance stated that America's golden age of dominating global airspace, oceans, outer space, and cyberspace has now passed, with its once unrivaled advantage gone. Clearly, Vance's speech is an admission of strategic problems within the U.S., and it also reveals regret over not containing us earlier. Vance's words are crystal clear: America was so intoxicated by the victory of the Cold War that it believed it could forever maintain its status as the global hegemon without anticipating how rapidly China would develop.

In Vance's view, America should not have initiated wars to forcibly promote its values. Although Vance mentioned the high cost America paid, this actually refers to the massive debt accumulated due to war efforts, which now suffocates America and hinders its own development. From Vance's tone, it's easy to see how dissatisfied the current Trump administration is with the actions of previous U.S. administrations.

In Vance's mind, America should have focused on containing China back then and should not have given China opportunities for growth, leading to China becoming today's challenge to America. Of course, from our perspective, we never intended to challenge America. However, through Vance's straightforward remarks, we clearly see that America has locked onto us as a rival.

No matter what we do, this is America's perception of us. We are well aware that America's perception of us cannot be changed at this stage. Therefore, although we do not wish to worsen Sino-American relations, we must confront America's challenges head-on; there is no illusion about this. Vance's stance foretells that future Sino-American relations may become even more turbulent, but we fear nothing.
