[Everything Under the Sun: Man Wrongfully Sent to El Salvador Prison to Be Repatriated]

On April 5, Bloomberg reported that the U.S. ordered the return of a man mistakenly sent to an El Salvador prison. The man was illegally arrested on March 12 and sent to El Salvador on March 15. A federal judge in the U.S. ordered the government to bring back the man wrongfully sent to an El Salvador prison by the deadline ending on Monday.

On April 4, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ruled that the government must bring Kirmer Armando Abrego Garcia back from a terrorist detention center in El Salvador. Judge Xinis said the man was sent to the El Salvador prison due to "administrative error." She believed it was likely that the man was expelled from the U.S. in violation of the law.

Judge Xinis stated that Abrego Garcia had been granted permission to defer deportation to his home country in 2019. This man was illegally arrested on March 12 and, without proper legal process or reasonable cause, was sent to El Salvador on March 15.

The Department of Justice insisted that he is a member of MS-13 gang and poses a threat to society. However, his lawyer denied any connection between Abrego Garcia and gangs, insisting he is a sheet metal worker.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said, "We suggest the judge contact El Salvador President Nayib Bukele because we are not sure if the judge has jurisdiction or authority over this country."

Reports indicated that this order was issued against the backdrop of strained relations between the government and another federal judge. That judge had previously stated that the U.S. might intentionally ignore his instruction to stop deporting Venezuelans identified as gang members by the Trump administration.

After returning to the White House, Trump launched procedures to deport illegal immigrants out of the U.S., which was one of his main promises during the campaign. At the end of January, Bloomberg reported that the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. may reach 11 million. If all of them were deported, the U.S. GDP would lose 8%.
