Kazakhstan is also eyeing Afghanistan's mineral resources

Kazinform News Agency, April 22nd. Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumankalin recently led a delegation to visit Afghanistan, and both sides reached consensus on strengthening economic and trade cooperation, promoting investment projects, and setting up bilateral trade platforms among other issues.

At the end of 2024, the two countries signed a roadmap to increase bilateral trade volume to 3 billion US dollars. Given Afghanistan's rich mineral resources, future cooperation will include mineral exploration and development. At present, some Kazakh enterprises have expressed strong interest in participating in the survey and investment of Afghanistan's mining areas.

On April 14th, a team of Kazakh geological experts and engineers conducted field inspections of several mining sites with the assistance of Afghanistan's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. According to Ilan Sharhan, deputy minister of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Industry and Construction, experts have collected 130 kilograms of ore samples from the beryllium, lead, and zinc mines in Nuristan Province. The samples will be transported back to Kazakhstan's laboratory for detailed analysis. Kazakhstan stated that after the experimental results are released, it will prepare for higher-level consultations on mine development issues.

It is worth mentioning that Kazakhstan recently provided 36 train carloads of humanitarian aid materials to the Afghan people. The relevant materials have been successfully delivered to Balkh Province in northern Afghanistan.
