US lawmakers call HarmonyOS a "national threat" and call for multilateral cooperation to ban it, but as we all know now, the US can only get the Five Eyes Alliance to impose bans, and some European countries may not ban it.

The US House of Representatives' "Select Committee on China" has written to the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Commerce, and the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, claiming that HarmonyOS poses a "national security threat," and calling for multilateral cooperation and diplomatic efforts to prevent its spread.

The letter claims that HarmonyOS can be used for data collection and network exploitation, and that Huawei is bound by Chinese law to "cooperate with national intelligence work." It also repeatedly mentions that Huawei has been placed on US sanction lists (such as the Entity List and the Department of Defense's list of Chinese military companies).

The committee advocates a comprehensive review of the HarmonyOS architecture and code, using diplomacy and intelligence sharing to persuade the world to continue using "trusted operating systems" and avoid embedding HarmonyOS in sensitive devices.
