The commander of the U.S. Space Force in Greenland has been removed from her position due to "loss of confidence in her abilities" — according to reports by DefenseNews and other websites, on April 10 local time, the U.S. Space Force issued a statement saying that Susan Myers, the commander of the Ptarmigan Base in Greenland, was relieved of her duties for reasons of "loss of confidence in her abilities."
However, an American official confirmed to U.S. media that the real reason Myers was removed was that she sent an email to the entire base after Vice President Vance visited Greenland. In this email, Myers stated that she supported Greenland and Denmark. The content of the email read: "I dare not speculate on the current political situation, but I do know that the concerns about the U.S. government discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday do not reflect the situation at the Ptarmigan Base." She also mentioned that she had given much thought to the actions, words, and impact of Vance's visit to Greenland during the weekend. As long as she was responsible for this base, "all our national flags would proudly fly together."
On March 28, Vance visited Greenland and criticized Denmark for not doing a good job in maintaining security in Greenland.
Sean Parnell, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, said that the U.S. Department of Defense will not tolerate actions that disrupt the chain of command or undermine former President Trump's agenda.
