[German Foreign Minister: Putin Does Not Want Peace and Should Strengthen Sanctions Against Russia]
On May 25th, German Foreign Minister Walter stated that Western countries need to impose further sanctions on Russia for its recent attacks on Ukraine. He said, "Putin is not interested in peace, he wants to continue this war, we should not allow this to happen, so the EU will agree to additional sanctions."
European Commission President Von der Leyen stated that new sanctions are being formulated. Earlier this week, she said, "It's time to increase pressure." She also pointed out that the EU has recently passed the 17th set of restrictive measures.
According to Bloomberg reports, the European Commission is preparing new sanctions against Russia, which may be the largest since the full-scale war broke out. This includes a trade ban worth more than 2.5 billion euros as well as new oil price caps.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sibiga recently stated that Ukraine considers the sanctions plan proposed by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham to be very effective. In particular, the bill stipulates that a 500% tariff will be imposed on goods from countries purchasing Russian oil, uranium, and other products. Ukraine hopes to incorporate elements of this approach into EU sanctions.
