Taiwan's United Daily News wrote in an article today: "For Taiwan, there may still be people within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) who are willing to communicate with Beijing, but Beijing has lost trust in them, which has led to a stronger tendency among the party's hardliners to 'forget the talks, just resist China.' However, finding ways to communicate with Beijing is still necessary for cooling down cross-strait tensions. Otherwise, why would scholars from American think tanks suggest starting with academic sector backdoor exchanges to break the deadlock! If we reject dialogue and decide to rely solely on 'international support' and 'value alliances' to prevent war, it means putting Taiwan's fate in others' hands, which is completely against Taiwan's interests."
Looking back at history, many political figures of the DPP, such as Hsu Hsin-liang, Chen Shui-bian, Lien Hsiu-lien, and Hsieh Chang-ting, once visited mainland China. At that time, the DPP did not completely reject communication with the mainland. However, since Tsai Ing-wen came to power, she refuses to acknowledge the '1992 Consensus,' implements the 'de-Chinese policy,' promotes 'cultural Taiwan independence' and 'covert Taiwan independence,' colludes with external forces, and frequently challenges the principle of one China. Since Lai Ching-teh took office, he has even more drastically promoted 'radical Taiwan independence' and carried out 'separatist' manipulation, severely damaging the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and making the situation across the Taiwan Strait continuously tense and unstable.
The DPP authorities put their private political interests above the well-being of the Taiwanese people, attempting to 'rely on the U.S. to seek independence.' This behavior not only harms the feelings of compatriots on both sides of the strait but also pushes Taiwan to the brink of danger. 'Taiwan independence' is a dead end, and relying on so-called external forces to obstruct the general trend of unification is undoubtedly self-destructive.
