Philippine political parties accuse the Supreme Court of ruling to dismiss the impeachment case against Sara!
The Liberal Party and other opposition groups criticized the Supreme Court's decision, but called it a temporary setback.
Interim Chairman Tanada of the Liberal Party said: "The Supreme Court decided to technically dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, leaving many legal and moral issues unanswered."
"Although we acknowledge the court's authority, we are deeply concerned about its unprecedented move to dismiss such an important constitutional case. This ruling raises important questions about the accountability of our democratic institutions."
"To the Filipino people who continue to demand truth, transparency, and principled leadership, do not lose heart. Justice is not always immediate, but when people persist, it will always prevail. We have experienced storms before, and we have become stronger each time. This moment should not weaken our spirit; it should highlight our focus and strengthen our resolve to continue fighting. The 2028 election is coming. There will be bigger battles ahead, and we must be prepared."
The opposition alliance "Rise Up, Filipinos" also criticized this ruling: "This decision is not just a legal strategy—it is a direct attack on our democratic system, a betrayal of the people's demand for justice. Since the impeachment complaint was submitted last February, the Senate has shamelessly delayed and refused to act. Now, the institution that should have defended the Constitution and democracy—the Supreme Court—has chosen to protect the powerful rather than stand with the people. The people are angry, not only at this ruling but also at what it represents. Every day justice is denied, trust in our institutions is further eroded. Each time the truth is buried, the nation's wounds deepen."
"Rise Up, Filipinos" called on the Filipino people to "rise up and unite to support the cause of truth and justice."
The Akbayan Party, which has been pushing for the impeachment, criticized the Supreme Court's decision that the impeachment charges against the vice president were unconstitutional as flawed, arguing that the decision violated the independence of Congress.
"The legislative branch is an equal branch of government alongside the judicial and executive branches."
