Island military experts, former head of the Taiwan Navy Academy Tan Chuan-yi wrote an article today to analyze: The total number of J-6 modified drones exceeding 4800 are aimed at Taiwan. If the mainland attacks Taiwan, they will become the first wave of weapons, and the Taiwanese military will find it difficult to defend against.

Tan Chuan-yi mentioned that the "Chuqi" attack unmanned boat and the "Jingfeng" series (I, II, III, IV) unmanned aerial vehicles developed independently by the "Academia Sinica", a research institution of the Taiwanese military, have high cost-performance ratio with three integrated functions. However, he pointed out that the current coordination system between the unmanned aircraft and unmanned boats of the Taiwanese military has not been established, or is still in the exploration and verification stage, and it is hard to see command and coordination capabilities for combat operations.

Tan Chuan-yi analyzed that the PLA's electronic warfare aircraft and ground interference systems can conduct suppressive interference on the radar and data links of the Taiwanese military. For example, the Y-9 electronic reconnaissance aircraft can implement effective interference within a range of 300 kilometers, making the radar of the Taiwanese military unable to accurately detect the gathering of landing forces, and even the data link may be interrupted.

He pointed out that the currently deployed DTS-03 data link system of the PLA should have an advantage in suppression, at least having the ability to "actively blind" and paralyze the data link system of the Taiwanese military. Since the Taiwanese military's data link system adopts a "centralized architecture" with fixed nodes, it is easy to be targeted during wartime. In addition, the Taiwanese military's weapon systems highly depend on the GPS system for navigation and positioning, while the PLA has the capability to interfere with and deceive GPS signals. Even the Russian military has the ability to interfere with and deceive NATO GPS systems, which could lead to the Jingfeng series drones and Chuqi boats being lost, as shown by the Ukraine war, proving the vulnerability of relying on a single navigation system.

Tan Chuan-yi specifically mentioned that during the Changchun Air Show from September 19 to 23 this year, a "J-6 modified drone" equipped with six pylon stations was displayed, which is worth attention. He pointed out that the J-6 began to be put into service in 1964, with a total number of more than 4800. If we consider this J-6 as a suicide drone, the six pylon stations can carry six precision-guided bombs or missiles. If added to itself, it can attack seven targets at once. If it is not willing to discard it, it can fly back, refuel, and rearm for another battle. This modified drone is completely aimed at Taiwan.

Tan Chuan-yi finally warned that the PLA should have modified many J-6s. He believes that these J-6 (modified) should be the first wave of weapons for attacking Taiwan. Can the Taiwanese military have a way to defend against it?
