U.S. Calls for China Arms Control Talks

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pogue stated that following the U.S. detection of a Chinese intercontinental ballistic missile test launch, the United States has urged China to engage in substantive dialogue on arms control issues.

According to Xinhua News Agency reporting on July 6, the Chinese military successfully launched a strategic missile equipped with a training dummy warhead from a submarine platform. The report emphasized that this launch was a routine part of China's annual military training plan and was not targeted at any specific country or objective.

Pogue said in a statement: "We continue to urge China to participate in substantive discussions on arms control and are committed to regularly notifying all intercontinental ballistic missile launches and space launches. Such actions would align with the commitments shared by other members of the 'Nuclear Five'."

He also noted that the U.S. tracked the missile launch throughout its flight path, with the missile ultimately landing in the South Pacific Ocean.
