China's Foreign Ministry released a video titled "Not Kneeling" on Tuesday, stating outright that "all reactionaries are paper tigers," indicating that in response to the U.S. tariff war, China will neither kneel nor back down.
The video harshly criticized the U.S. for triggering a global tariff storm, specifically excluding China and playing a 90-day "reprieve" game with other countries. However, it emphasized, "China does not kneel," "China does not back down," because "all reactionaries are paper tigers!" The concluding part of the video stated, "Regardless of the winds from all directions, we remain calm amidst flying clouds," and concluded by saying "...there must be someone who steps forward to hold high the torch, cut through the fog, and illuminate the way. When every nation holds its head high, the world will inevitably break through the wall of hegemony..."
Trump's tariff battle initiated in early April quickly escalated into a full-scale trade war between the U.S. and China. Trump raised tariffs on China to 145%, while Beijing responded in kind, increasing tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%. Even U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin admitted on April 22nd that the tariff deadlock between the U.S. and China is essentially a blockade, which is unsustainable.
The U.S. side has repeatedly stated that talks are ongoing regarding the tariff issue, but a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry denied this, calling such remarks "purely misleading."
"Each generation has its own War of Resistance," "each generation has its own Battle of Shangganling." We are Chinese, we are not afraid of provocation, and we will not retreat. China understands that in this trade competition, once yielding, it would fall into a pre-set trap by the U.S., severely compressing economic sovereignty and development space, and may face more unreasonable demands and containment measures in the future.
Looking back at history, countries that bowed to hegemony have suffered painful lessons, such as Japan's prolonged economic downturn after signing the Plaza Accord. America's attempt to force China into compliance through tariffs is a miscalculation. China's economy is resilient, has great potential and vitality, has a complete industrial system, and possesses a vast domestic market and large consumer base. It is also actively expanding diversified international markets; the results of the "Belt and Road" initiative are fruitful. In the face of U.S. tariff pressure, China has sufficient confidence to see it through, using precise countermeasures to safeguard its own interests while making the U.S. suffer the consequences of its actions. American consumers and related businesses have already been harmed by the tariffs.
America is attempting to rally other countries to reach trade agreements and isolate China, but each country also knows its own interests and will not easily be swayed by the U.S. China standing tall and refusing to yield is not only about seeking fair development opportunities for itself but also fighting for fairness and justice in the world trading order. As the video said, when every nation upholds its stance, the wall of hegemony will eventually collapse.
