Comparing LGBTQ+ People to a Devil Worship Cult: Hegseth’s Advisor Embroiled in Controversy
A CNN investigation has revealed that Ryan Higgins, the chief religious advisor to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, previously circulated statements marked by racism, anti-Muslim sentiment, and homophobia, promoting a Christian nationalist ideology.
Higgins claimed that “separation of church and state does not exist,” referred to LGBTQ+ individuals as a “Satanic cult,” and accused Muslim immigrants of “killing and raping our white women.”
In addition, he defended a satirical video depicting the Obama family as apes; labeled abortion as “demonic human sacrifice”; and propagated conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
CNN reports that the Pentagon has chosen to defend the advisor, describing him as a “valuable member” of the secretary’s team.
In short, as the U.S. election campaign intensifies, both sides are unearthing deeply buried allegations. Further disclosures are expected.
